A Peek Inside My Design Process
Whether we're working together to create a one-of-a-kind brand identity or getting all the visuals ready to launch your next big thing, I follow a step-by-step and streamlined process for each and every one of my projects. Over the years, I've tweaked and refined this process so that all of my clients can have a smooth and seamless experience during our time together. Today, I'm excited to pull back the curtain are share an overview of my design process!
Step 1: Getting Started
To start off the process, all of my clients complete a brief questionnaire. This questionnaire is designed to help me learn more about them, their business and their vision, and their responses will serve as a roadmap throughout the entire design process. In addition to completing the questionnaire, I'll also gather all copy and content for their website, sales pages or marketing collateral. This will not only ensure our project stays on track, but that my clients can kick back and relax the rest of the way!
Step 2: Establishing a Design Direction
Using all the information shared with me through our conversations and the initial questionnaire, I’ll prepare a Design Proposal for my clients to review. This proposal will ensure we are beginning the design process with a solid, intentional foundation and make sure we’re on the same page as far as the design direction and overall aesthetic.
Step 3: Brand Design
With an approved creative direction in my back pocket, I’ll begin designing potential logo and brand concepts. For my branding clients, this is their overall brand identity, and for my launch clients, this is the sub-brand we're creating for their signature offering. Once I think I’ve hit the nail on the head, I’ll send over the brand concept along with a detailed explanation so that my clients have a thorough understanding of the rationale behind the design. If necessary, we will tweak and refine so that my clients have the best design to connect with their ideal client and achieve their business goals.
Step 4: Website Design
Once the the brand design is approved, we’ll move forward with web design. For Designed to Launch clients, this includes any sales or landing pages. For branding and web design clients, we'll start with the home page before moving on to the complete site. Working on the website design next is important to ensure plenty of time for development and revisions, as well as giving us an opportunity to explore the brand application.
Step 5: Collateral Design
Using the elements of their approved brand identity design, I'll create any brand collateral (such as business cards or stationery) or marketing collateral (PDFs, social media graphics) that my clients have added to their package. Just like with the brand concepts, they'll have the opportunity to provide feedback and we can make any refinements that help them to better connect with their ideal client and achieve their business goals.
Step 6: Final files, launch & celebrate!
With all elements approved, I'll send over a link to a Dropbox folder with the final files. In this folder, you’ll find all your brand elements, as well as elements for your web pages and collateral. Before my clients share their new brand identity or signature offering with the world, I'll share suggestions to prepare for a successful launch. From there, I’ll be cheering them on during launch day and as they continue to grow your business!
